  • Prolonged outdoor use in extreme weather conditions is not recommended
  • Cover furniture when not in use to prevent damage from inclement weather, leaf mulch, sap and wildlife
  • Consider furniture placement and avoid areas that are likely to cause excessive build up of corrosive materials
  • Do not under any circumstances use strong solvents such as thinners or solutions containing chlorinated hydrocarbons, esters or ketones
  • Abrasive cleaners or cutting compounds should not be used
  • Interpon Powder Coatings recommends nothing stronger than white spirits to assist with stubborn stains such as hard water spots / calcium stains
  • When using white spirits, cleaning should be carried out in shade and during cooler temperatures using a soft cloth and gentle wiping only
  • It is also recommended that prior to use, a small non-visible area of the powder coated article be tested to ensure that no visual color change or damage will occur, particularly with bright and deep colors

HOW TO REMOVE HARD-WATER STAINS

Due to it’s high mineral content, hard-water scaling may occur as a result of exposure to the elements, or lack of routine maintenance. Try the following steps to removing calcium deposits and hard water spots.

  1. Prepare a solution of equal parts white vinegar and distilled water
  2. Spray the solution directly on to the stain and allow to sit for 10-15 minutes
  3. Rinse thoroughly with a clean, wet cloth to ensuring all residue has been removed
  4. If the scaling has only been slightly lifted, repeat steps 2 and 3 to allow the stain more time to soak
  5. If successful, allow to air dry completely before use, otherwise proceed to the next step
  6. Prepare a paste consisting of 3 parts baking soda, 1 part distilled water and a few drops of white vinegar
  7. Apply the paste to a clean sponge and gently scrub the stain
  8. Apply more paste directly on to the stain and allow to sit for 15 minutes
  9. Rinse thoroughly with a clean, wet cloth to ensuring all residue has been removed
  10. Re-apply the paste for a second time if required

We recommend using the following information in addition to the relevant care guides specified to ensuring your furniture is performing at peak condition, so you can relax and enjoy it for years to come.

GENERAL ADVICE

  • Test out any new cleaning solutions on a hidden area before applying to the entire furniture piece
  • Use distilled water where possible when cleaning, for best results
  • Dust regularly to prevent buildup of dirt, particles or airborne pollutants which may cause damage
  • Remove day-to-day marks as they appear to prevent buildup of stubborn stains
  • Avoid using steel wool, scourers or any other abrasive materials when cleaning furniture
  • Strong bleaches and chloride-based cleaners may damage or dull the material’s finish and should be avoided at all times, unless stated otherwise
  • Keep furniture at a safe distance from excessive heat sources such as heaters, fireplaces and firepits to avoid damage, whether indoors or outside
  • Keep furniture out of harsh, direct sunlight to avoid premature fading and discoloration
  • Keep furniture out of direct contact with nails, claws and other sharp objects which may lead to scratches, tears or unsightly damage
  • Keep furniture covered during extensive periods of non-use
  • Maintain a regular care and maintenance schedule to increase the furniture’s longevity

Prevention is often the best cure. Any signs of damage or defect should be reported immediately. Please refer to our Warranty section for more information, or contact our Customer Support Team if you require assistance.

HOW TO REMOVE TEA STAINING

Tea staining is a cosmetic issue that appears as a discolouration of stainless steel surfaces, usually as a result of superficial corrosion. This may be caused by a number of factors, including proximity to coastal areas, exposure to the air borne pollutants, as well as lack of routine maintenance. Although tea staining does not affect the structural integrity or life of the material, it is important to tend to staining problems immediately using the methods outlined below*:

  1. Treat the surface to dissolve the stain by using a phosphoric acid mixture, but avoid using a mixtures containing hypochlorite, hydrochloric acid or chlorine
  2. Wet the surface with the solution, at the recommended dilution using a rag or soft-bristled brush
  3. Leave the solution on the surface until the stain has been removed - about 30 minutes or longer, ensuring the surface is never dried out
  4. It often helps to renew the application during this time - mild rubbing with the applicator may help to dislodge heavier deposits
  5. If required, gel or paste formulations are available to help the acid stay on the surface, particularly when on steep & vertical surfaces
  6. Alternatively, a sulphamic acid based powder cleaner (e.g. Essteele Stainless Steel Cleaner) on a moist rag can be used. The stains can be scrubbed off – once over to leave some chemical on the surface, then a second scrub after five or ten minutes is usually effective.

  1. Immediately apply an absorbent such as corn starch directly on the oil-based stain
