Do's
- Before applying any cleaning agent, including recommended agents, test in a small out of the way area
- Tempered glass has been hardened to resist breakage In the event of breakage, caution should always be exercised
- Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight
- Use table cloth or other shade options to protect from direct sun for prolonged time
- In the event of breakage, tempered glass will shatter into small cubes rather than large jagged sheets to minimise the risk of injury
- Use coasters, placemats and heat mats as appropriate to increase longevity
- Always use a chopping board when cutting food items as a knife can cause damage to the surface
- Keep glass dry on sunny days to minimise temperature variation in surface
- Cover furniture when not in use to prevent damage from inclement weather, leaf mulch, sap and wildlife
- Consider furniture placement and avoid areas that are likely to cause excessive build up of corrosive materials
- Wipe down regularly to avoid excessive build up of corrosive materials
- Avoid placing right next to glass fences and/or large bodies of water due to possible magnified sunlight
Don'ts
- By no means should it be considered unbreakable or scratch-proof
- Don’t hose down furniture during periods of extreme heat
- Sudden temperature changes may cause stress on a material which can weaken it long-term
- Don’t place or drop hard or heavy items on to the surface; this may stress the glass, even when dropped from a short distance
- Don’t use your tabletop as a food preparation surface
- Don’t apply glass cleaner to painted or frosted glass; this can cause peeling or discolouration
- Don’t allow pools of water to sit on the glass in sunlight; this creates a lens effect which may cause “hot spots”
- Prolonged outdoor exposure in extreme weather conditions is not recommended
- Avoid placing furniture in environments that may cause UV damage when magnified by surfaces such as glass (including glass balustrades, glass panels)
