Taking Inspiration from the Hampton Designer Showhouse

How To / September 23,2013

The Hampton Designer Showhouse offered homeowners great insights into some wonderful new ideas from a few very talented designers. Here are a few of the best tips from the designers showcased this year:

  • Think outside the box when it comes to your furniture choices - If you have a covered area in particular you should think about interesting ways to furnish your space. It doesn't have to be the standard patio furniture that you decide on. Designer Bryant Keller used Anglo-Indian antiques to furnish a verandah and it looked stunning. This was a great choice because that type of furniture is usually very resistant to dampness and humidity.
  • Use fabrics to transform walls - Kim Radovich of Kim E, Courtney Interiors and Design covered the shingles on her porch with a fabric and it looked great. Fabrics don't have to be limited to indoor spaces, as they can look effective when used outdoors as well.
  • When eating outside, ditch the paper and plastic - If you are having a family dinner or friends over, why not use real cutlery and china? It makes the experience much nicer and linen napkins feel lovely compared to paper. Above all, it just looks better too.
